According to the new EU security regulations, residence permits for non-European family members of EU citizens must be electronic and follow a new format.
The replacement began on August 2, 2021 and must take place by August 3, 2023.
The document will bear the inscription “EU family member art. 10 DIR 2004/38 / EC “for the 5-year residence card, the words” EU family member art. 20 DIR 2004/38 / EC “for the permanent residence card.
The Law of 23 December 2021, n. 238 to articles 3 and 15, in force since February 1, 2022, amended the regulations relating to the EU residence permit for long-term residents.
The variation of the type of permit involves changes in the Long-Term Permits that will be issued: the adjective “unlimited” is replaced with the wording of the “expiry” date of 10 years, therefore the right to stay in the area remains unlimited, but the physical document expires after 10 years and must be updated.
The new type of electronic permit will also be used for British citizens and their family members and will be defined as a residence card.
